Comprehensive Holistic Care

Specialising in:

IVF and Women’s Health

Dr. Benji is concerned with giving the patient a full range of strategies and education to allow better healing and greater support throughout the treatment process. The importance of the way the Mind and Body unifies is of the utmost importance in the treatment strategies Dr. Benji employs.

A typical consultation and treatment involves a thorough health assessment, acupuncture and dispensing of a personalised herbal formula.

The length of time needed to treat the individual can range from 2 – 4 sessions for acute cases, 3 – 6 months in fertility and IVF preparation and longer in cases of chronic disease and systemic weaknesses.

A normal treatment period is measured in four week blocks.

Facial Rejuvenation

The face is often the first area of the body to suffer damage due to internal imbalances, environmental causes and poor blood circulation and elasticity.

From the Eastern perspective, poor blood circulation is the primary cause of discoloration and wrinkles on the face and neck. Therefore it is very important to increase the circulation in these affected areas to reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture and complexion.

This is achieved by using a combination massage, topical application of herbal substances, internal medicine and acupuncture. All these techniques improve circulation by either increasing blood flow locally by stimulation of blood flow, or by affecting the internal organs and blood vessels the feed blood to the face.

Over a number of years, Dr. Benji had developed a routine that is extremely effective in giving the face a more youthful and radiant appearance.

In a typical treatment you can expect a combination of Acupuncture, Tsubo pressure point therapy and herbal medicine to increase blood flow to fill in wrinkles and smooth out areas of discoloration to cause the skin become more radiant and healthy, and new skin to be produced.

Dr. Benji’s system is preferable to more common western alternatives such as botox and chemical peels, due to being far less risky or toxic and not damaging the delicate dermal and sub-dermal layers.

Tsubo

The system of massage therapy employed by Dr. Benji is a Traditional Japanese system known as Tsubo , by which Dr. Benji is able to deliver both a relaxing and rejuvenating massage with one that can effectively clear toxins from the body and boost energy and well-being.

Tsubo works on the flow of energy or Ki that circulates through our bodies in specific energy channels or meridians. Traditional Oriental Medicine suggests that we all have a “life force” or “life energy” which created our physical structure and regulates physical, emotional, mental and spiritual balance. This life force, called Ki in Japanese, maintains a homeostatic balance in your body.

The flow of Ki can be disturbed either through external trauma, such as an injury, or internal trauma such as depression or stress. This is when symptoms like aches and pain start to occur and we start to experience a state of “disease”. In Tsubo and the physical touch is used to assess the distribution of Ki throughout the body and to try to correct any imbalances accordingly.

Through a comprehensive massage treatment, Dr. Benji is able to create a state of detox and balance in the body. Along with the positive physical effects of massage, the process is also one that is very relaxing and has the ability to lower stress, blood pressure and has positive effects on reducing anxiety and depression.

What is Kiatsu?

Kiatsu translates to ‘press with energy’. It is a technique that has developed to be able to unblock areas of stagnation in the body and to increase the normal flow of Ki in the body. If the body has a normal flow of Ki, then metabolism will be high and health will be good. On the other hand, when metabolism is low, disease and illness will arise.

The primary requirements for health are good food, good water and good air. It really is that simple. If we ensure we are getting these three things in the correct levels, we will have bountiful energy, radiant health and happiness. However, we often see that people can have these three things can also have poor health. How can this be? It is generally an issue with Ki: when Ki loses it flow, disharmony occurs.

What is Ki?

Ki can be used to explain many natural phenomenon that exist in the world today. From the source of the ‘absolute universe’, to our own bodies in this universe. When human Ki is in harmony with the Ki of the universe, we are healthy. In my experience, Ki can be described as the energetic force that creates all life, all matter and gives rise to everything. When we are awake we consume Ki to live. As the day progresses the level of Ki slowly declines closer to our base level. If we do not sleep properly, do not exercise correctly and do not eat clean and energy rich foods, Ki will suffer. Ki replenishes the most when we sleep. It is at this time we are most relaxed and we open ourselves up completely to the universe. When we have to rely on sleeping tablets for a full nights sleep, we cut ourselves of from the universe, we do not relax properly and Ki is not sufficiently replenished.

When our Ki is interchanging with the Ki of the universe, this creates the ultimate state of health, balance and happiness. This state is referred to as Mind-Body unification and by achieving this state, you will be able to live a long, happy and healthy life. When someone is ill it is necessary for some intervention to occur to rebalance the mind and body. This can be achieved through various means, such as acupuncture, herbal medicine and massage. However one of the best methods is to send Ki into the person’s body to achieve health and wellbeing. The method of sending Ki into someone’s body is called ‘Kiatsu Ryoho’. To be able to transmit Ki into a body, it is necessary to know how to extend Ki and how to send it to others.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views cancer as a slowing or stoppage (stasis) in the flow of Substances in the body. In particular, cancer is understood to have underlying factors that allow cancer to develop. For example, factors such as Qi Stasis, Blood Stasis, and Phlegm, are responsible for masses and abnormal cellular growth. These three types of stasis are thought to result from a variety of factors including emotional disharmony (which is said to cause stasis in the body), improper diet and exercise, and External Pathogenic Factors (which may remain in the body and cause stasis).

Traditional Chinese Medicine Categories of Cancer

The type of stasis underlying a TCM understanding of cancer depends upon signs and symptoms and the Zang Fu Organs affected. This stasis is then examined in terms of the body’s overall energetic features and the state of the Zang Fu, the Substances, and the Meridians.

In terms of understanding the role of Stasis of the Fundamental Substances, patients with cancer tend to display the following:

  • Qi Stasis: Distending pain, a mass that seems to appear and disappear or change in size, easy frustration, and irritability or other emotional reactions. The tongue is a dusky color, and the pulse is wiry.
  • Blood Stasis: Sharp, stabbing pain and masses fixed in origin. The tongue has distended sublingual veins, and the pulse is choppy.
  • Phlegm: Soft masses, a subjective sensation of heaviness or sluggishness in the body, and expectoration of a copious amount of phlegm. The tongue has a greasy coating, and the pulse is slippery/wiry.
  • Because cancer may cause other disruptions in the body’s energetics, these signs and symptoms may be subtle and may only give an indication of the TCM cause underlying the disease.
